Jeremy Speaking

Monday morning. Jeremy, administrative officer of Chumley Mirrors, fields numerous phone-calls, and covers for Millie Reid.

Chumley is behind screens with his back facing the audience
Millie is asleep in her flat
Jeremy is in the office

Lights up on office
Jeremy is answering the phone

Jeremy:
Morning, Chumley Mirror Offices
Jeremy speaking
How may I help you?
Reflections?
Some mirrors for your boardroom
I'll send you a brochure
Yes with the director
Say Friday next week sir
Thank you
My pleasure

(Jeremy contacts Chumley on the intercom)
Sir, I've booked you a meeting
It's in the diary for Friday a twelve.

(The phone rings again)
Morning, Chumley Mirror Offices
Jeremy speaking
How may I help you?
Hi there
Thanks for getting back to me
Yes, that`s the order
But make it much shorter
And gilt-edge the border
It's such madness
Each wish he must grant it

(Jeremy to Chumley again)
Sir the warehouse has `phoned me
They'll run up the order
And upgrade the border

(The phone rings again)
Morning, Chumley Mirror Offices
Jeremy speaking
How may I help you?
No sir
Millie Reid's not here right now
Can I take a message?
I'll ask her to call you
If you leave your number
I'm sure she'll soon ring you

(lights up on Millie's flat and dim on the office)

Millie:
Wake all alone
Open my eyes
Empty apartment
Silence replies
Through the stillness
My heartbeat clings to life
Somehow that rhythm
Keeps my hope alive
Keeps my hope alive

Lift my head from the pillow
Put my feet upon the ground
I long still for summer
But it's winter all around
Through the silence
Words can not be found
To say how I'm feeling
So I don't make a sound
I don't make a sound

(Millie prepares for work)

Put on the kettle
Warm up my heart
Paint on the color
Must look the part, in the mirror
A woman stares at me
Sometimes I wonder
What do others see
What do others see?

(Millie leaves her flat for work)

Find my keys on the table
I always keep them there
Pick up the junk mail
There's never time to spare
Round the corner
Leave my troubles there
I'm in late as always
They don't really care
Morning love I'm here

Millie:
Hi, love it`s me
Overslept!

Jeremy:
Not again

Millie:
Sorry Jem
How has it been?

Jeremy:
O, just fine
But it`s busy
So much to arrange for the Looking Glass Ball
And no time

Millie:
Quick

Jeremy:
Just look busy
For here`s Mr. Chumley

Jeremy and Millie:
Good morning Sir!
