Conclusions
including reprises of "Suddenly", "Plenty More Dishes In The Sink", and prelude to "Quartet"

(Jeremy returns. He is delighted to see that the flowers have gone. Seeing the door open he steps in. He is shocked to find that the place is bare. Devastated, Jeremy discovers Cara's note. He puts the two scraps together. Lights up on the bus-stop. Cara is waiting with her suitcase. As Jeremy reads the note, Cara sings out its contents).

Intense narrow follow spot on Jeremy`s face. Dim lights on Cara as she enters and carries stand from Jeremy`s desk to front stage right, inverting it to a Bus Stop.

Lights on Cara.

Cara:
O my love
You must believe what I say
I have lied in every way
Make believe
A fantasy formed in your heart
I can no longer play that part

I sell my soul
Each night exposed
My flesh reveals
The best of me
Blokes in that bar
See me for real
That's all I am

Lights out on Cara. She exits stage right.

Desperate to catch up with her, Jeremy rushes out to the bus-stop. She has gone. Jeremy wanders down the street (centre stage) and is drawn to the sound of Club Expose. Entering, he brushes past Chumley who is sat in his usual place. Taking to Cara's stage, Jeremy picks up a display board on which she features. He looks through the backstage curtain to see if she is there. Throughout this, Chumley reprises his earlier advice:

Chumley:
Girl's like her
Well, their one or two a penny
You must prefer
Many morsels from the menu
Oh,
You can love them, then shove them
Woo them, then screw them
Boss them, then toss them
You've lost them -
Listen to me
Quit your sniffling and your snuffling
She's history
Jerry, trust me
She's worth nothing
See,
Or else you'll end up like me.

Ignoring Chumley, Jeremy rushes out of the Club the same way he came. (Behind the back screen archway - a mirror display is pushed from behind the back curtains. Stage Glass sheeting is placed across the arch way). Jeremy runs round the left side of the stage and enters to the side of Chumley Mirrors shop front. (Millie enters unseen with a real umbrella and stands by the bus stop). In the street, Jeremy pauses for breath and leans against the shop-window. Frustrated at not finding Cara, Jeremy turns and faces a window of Mirrors - Chumley's full range. Jeremy rages at his reflection, picking up a stone he hurls it at the glass. At the same time Millie puts up her umbrella. (Sound effects of rain). Sitting down on the pavement, Jeremy has clearly accepted defeat. Chumley, on hearing the smashing glass, steps out of the Club but is not seen by Jeremy. From a distance, Jeremy sees that someone is standing at the bus-stop. Convinced it is Cara, he runs over filled with excitement - only to discover Millie.

Millie:
When I arrived she had gone

Jeremy:
I thought for just one moment you were her

Millie:
Please Jem, you musn`t despair

Jeremy:
You must have known all along

Millie:
It wasn`t my secret to share

Jeremy:
Down at Expose you`ll see the blue lady

Millie:
Her heart was always alone

Jeremy:
The meaning of love

Millie:
Her heart was always alone

Jeremy:
The meaning of love

Millie:
Her heart was always alone

(Lights dimly on Chumley stepping out of the Club. He watches the two of them from across the street)

Jeremy:
Where has my love gone?

Millie:
You where deceived
But you were lost
In make-believe
Love`s not destroyed
Because you grieve

Jeremy:
Where has my love gone?

Millie:
The things you said
Was that your heart
Or just your head
Love is not won
With one caress
True love is real
True love is real

And I will break her trust
To end her fear
I`ll leave you to decide
You`ll find her here

(Millie gives Jeremy Cara`s new address)

Millie:
She`s been good to me

She broke the pain

The years I`ve lost

I`ll live again

She needs our love

To end her shame

Jeremy:
My whole life`s changed
A new world just begun
For you`ve captured my heart

Jeremy:
Where has my love gone?
I hold the key

She`s not alone

She`s part of me

My love was blind

But soon we`ll see
True love is real

Millie:

Love`s never lost

Love is the key
She`s not alone
She`s part of me
But soon we`ll see
True love is real

Millie:
True love is real

Jeremy:
True love is real

Millie:
We have to break her trust

Jeremy:
To end her fear

Millie:
Come leave the past behind

Millie and Jeremy:
True love is real

(Lights out)
