Cara and Millie`s Flat`s
Flat Out
including reprises of Millie's Theme, Cara's Theme and Invisible Tears
Cara enters (unseen) with transparent suitcase, night-club dress, a few clothes and a pen and paper. She swaps Chumley`s real case for the transparent one.
(It is the evening. Having just entered her flat, Millie pauses at the door, aware that something is wrong. Meanwhile, Cara sits on her bed)
Cara:
I'm terrified that he might find
The secret life that lies behind
The memories that haunt my days
And make me wish my life way
I wish I could deceive myself
And change the way I feel inside
I couldn't bear to be myself
It's someone I don't recognise
Millie:
Keep your head above the water
And your feet upon the ground
You're waiting for summer
But it's winter all around
Though your screams break the silence
Words can not be found
To say how your feeling
So you don`t make a sound

(Cara cannot face Jeremy. If she told him about her work at Club Expose, she is certain he would not want to know her. She resolves to leave and starts to pack her dress, clothes and Millie`s transparent tissue box in her transparent suitcase. Taking a pen and a scrap of paper, Cara tries writing Jeremy a note. She gives up on the idea, tears it in half and throws it into a bin)
(Leaving the flat, Cara discovers Jeremy's flowers. She places them outside Millie's door. She leaves. Realising that Jeremy's card would still be amongst the flowers, Cara returns. Picking up the card she turns it over and writes a short note to Millie:)
Did you think that I'd forget you
You'll find me at this place
You've left your past behind you
It's my turn to walk that way
I can count on you to keep this
You're the only one who'll know
Be sure to keep this secret
No-one else should know
Jem must not be told
(Cara places the note on top of the flowers. As she leaves, Cara adopts another false personna)
Had a call from my agent
I'm up for a part in a musical show......
